The collection contains letters to J. Walter Kelley while at Dickinson College, 1898-1899, and to James Arthur Kelley while at Mercersburg Academy, 1909-1910, and at Penn State, 1910-1911. Correspondents include several young women friends from Reedsville, Lewistown, Lancaster, Altoona, and Bellefonte, a few male friends, and family members, especially their mother, father, and siblings. Family letters include news about a public hanging, births, deaths, illness, and marriages. Their friends write about student life, and several of the young women's correspondence are love letters. Also includes invitations, J. Walter Kelley's 1930 paystub, a partial plat map; and James Arthur Kelley's school notebook, grade reports from Mercersburg Academy (Mar. and May 1910), receipt for school supplies, and a notice to parents requiring students to remain on campus during Mercersburg's commencement week.
